Death Doula

What is a Death Doula?

“We live until the moment of death. Death is part of life; it is the end of life.

We do not abandon a mother giving birth, nor should we abandon the dying. Both birth and death are profound mysteries.”

— Author Unknown

A Doula is a non-medical professional who provides guidance for the service of others and who supports another person through a significant health-related experience. This may include experiences such as childbirth, stillbirth, as well as non-reproductive experiences such as dying.

A Death Doula can play an important part during an individuals end of life journey. They're not only available to support the dying individual as they can also assist their partner, family, and friends during this time as well.

A Death Doula provides companionship, compassion and care to the person dying and their loved ones. The areas of doula support are only limited by their inability to perform clinical or medical tasks, diagnose or prescribe treatment. A Death Doula is a good listener, a compassionate care provider, a positive encourager and an advocate for loved one’s rights and wishes.
